We’re excited to share some big news from us at FX Pedal Planet Online Store: we’re now an official dealer for Color Audio effects pedals. Our first order is already placed and stock is due to arrive very soon, so we wanted to tell you why we’ve brought Color Audio on board and what you can expect.

Color Audio is a pedal company run by Finnish designer and builder Jarno Takkumäki. Jarno has been building gear for himself and friends for over ten years while working full time as a technician and musician. Over that time he spotted a lot of ideas for gear that he thought should exist, and with Color Audio those ideas became real. All of the products are designed and assembled in Helsinki, Finland.

Among the pedals in the Color Audio range you’ll find their standout model: the Cassette Preamp. It’s described as the channel strip of a vintage Japanese cassette recorder brought into pedal form, with extra features to make it versatile. Although originally designed as a mic/line pre amp, users are plugging guitars or basses straight in and getting very usable sounds, from compressed cleans to full on fuzz. This pedal features gain, bass and treble controls, and dedicated filtering (high-pass / low-pass) to shape the character. Right now the Cassette Preamp is in demand and has had limited batches.

Why did we decide to carry Color Audio? There are several reasons. Firstly, the build quality and design speak to us: being designed and assembled in Helsinki shows a strong attention to detail. Secondly, the sound concept is different, the cassette-preamp style is niche but very appealing to players looking for something off the beaten path, whether that’s lo-fi tape-sat saturation, warm compressed cleans or gritty textures. Reviews confirm that the Cassette Preamp works beautifully with guitar or bass plugged directly in. Thirdly, we've already seen demand for this type of circuit and aesthetic, and we believe our customers will appreciate an alternative to the large mainstream pedal brands. Finally, the retro-inspired design of the pedals adds visual flair to any pedalboard without being over-the-top.
