Guitar World Spotlights Dawner Prince And The Echorec Story

We’re excited to share some great news for tone hunters: our new supplier, Dawner Prince, has just been featured in Guitar World, with a detailed interview of founder and designer Zoran Kraljević, who discusses his take on the legendary Binson Echorec and how it inspired their modern pedal, the Boonar.

Guitar World is one of the most respected magazines and websites covering guitars, effects, amps and the players who use them. The piece in question, published 8 November 2025, explores the history of delay, echo units and how the Echorec remains influential even today.

Dawner Prince is a boutique effects builder based in Croatia, led by Zoran Kraljević, who began life tinkering on audio electronics and has grown his brand to serve high level guitarists. Their mission is to deliver distinctive delay, modulation and overdrive pedals, focused on tone and usability.

The Binson Echorec is an echo/delay unit originally made by Italian company Binson in the mid 1950s, using a magnetic drum rather than tape loops. It found its place in the rigs of early rock and psychedelic players, among them David Gilmour (of Pink Floyd), Hank Marvin, Rory Gallagher and more. What makes it special is its organic, textured repeats, its movement, and the way it responds to performance rather than simply mirroring it.

The Boonar and its higher end sibling the Boonar Tube Deluxe are modern pedals from Dawner Prince that aim to replicate the Echorec’s signature character in a stomp box format. The Boonar captures the “multi head drum echo” behaviour of the Echorec, giving a delay sound that feels alive and deep rather than just simple repeats. The Boonar Tube Deluxe adds vacuum tube circuitry, full MIDI control, studio grade outputs and enhanced features like preset storing and a delay time display. In the Guitar World interview Zoran explains that the earliest Boonar was designed without ever using a real Echorec, instead relying on demos, his ears and PC speakers, and later refined through comparison and testing.

In the interview, Zoran talks about how drum echo differs from tape echo (“a rotating magnetic drum” vs tape loop), why the Echorec still matters to modern guitarists, and how he approached recreating those qualities in a pedal. He explains the sense of movement, the depth, the musical texture, what he calls “something in between an echo and a reverb”. And he acknowledges the role of players and technicians, including David Gilmour’s technician Phil Taylor, in fine tuning the Boonar Tube Deluxe.

We’re pleased to announce that Dawner Prince’s product range, including the Boonar and Boonar Tube Deluxe, will be available soon on the FX Pedal Planet Online Store. We know many of you are looking for new, creative delay tools, and these pedals deliver that sought after Echorec vibe in a compact format.
