The Dirty Haggard Audio Degrade is a bass heavy fuzz making it ideal for bass guitar and adding loads of bottom end to guitar.
With the ‘Mix’ control at maximum (100% effect), Degrade acts as a distortion leaning gated fuzz. (palm-mute away). With the ‘Mix’ at minimum (mostly dry), it becomes more of a ‘harmonic enhancer”.
Turn the 'Mix' up between roughly 5 to 15%, and the Dirty Haggard Audio Degrade is a parallel clean overdrive. 16% to 40% and the Dirty Haggard Audio Degradehas sounds more like a distortion with a touch of clean tone mixed in. Beyond 40% and the Dirty Haggard Audio Degrade goes right back to where we started…fuzz with a touch of clean up to full on distortion fuzz.
However, that’s effectively just covering the one knob. The ‘Clean Filter’ control adjusts how much treble and upper midrange of the clean signal is available to be mixed with the distorted. At minimum, it’s barely attenuating anything withing the human audible frequency range. At maximum, it’s attenuating everything above (frequency) at a rate of 8dB/octave or 20dB /decade. It is a single order filter, which offers a gentle, but highly effective attenuation slope. Of course, anywhere in between minimum and maximum will attenuate varying amounts of the highs to upper mids.
The ‘Tone’ control adjusts fuzz EQ, as you would expect, by lowering highs when turned counter clockwise, and lows when turned clockwise.
The ‘Gain’ control offers a bit of surprise, depending on what you are running through the circuit. It has a tendency to overload itself, when an energetic signal is run through it with high gain. It can cause awkward and hard to repeat glitches, leading to quite a unique and interesting playing experience.
The Dirty Haggard Audio Degrade circuit makes you forever guilty of sin. For this Nick at Dirty Haggard Audio holds no responsibility. The devil made him do it.
Dirty Haggard Audio effects pedals are fuzz to their core. A great feature if you are just looking for the absolute best in fuzz, high gain and low noise.
