Color Audio is a fresh name on the effects pedal scene, run by Finnish builder and musician Jarno Takkumäki. After more than a decade spent creating gear for himself and fellow players, while working full time as a tech, Jarno decided it was time to put his ideas into the hands of a wider audience. Color Audio exists for one simple reason: to build the tools he always wished someone else would make.
Designed and assembled in Helsinki, every Color Audio pedal begins with a clear purpose. Jarno’s approach is shaped by years on stage and at the workbench, giving him a practical understanding of what musicians want from their gear. No empty frills, no unnecessary features, just solid, reliable equipment that earns its place on a pedalboard.
The standout in the current line up is the Cassette Preamp, based on the channel strip of a vintage Japanese cassette recorder. In pedal form, it offers a distinctive character that moves from compressed cleans to gritty, blown out fuzz. Originally intended as a mic and line preamp, it also excels with guitar and bass plugged straight in, delivering a wide palette of DI textures as well as acting as a flexible front end for any amplifier.
Color Audio may be a young brand, but its foundation is built on real experience and genuine curiosity. If you're looking for gear created by someone who knows the demands of playing, recording, and keeping rigs running smoothly, this is a company worth getting to know.
