Description

The Supercool Pedals Zig-Zag Analog Chorus and Vibrato is a compact analogue modulation pedal designed to bring classic Small Clone-inspired chorus textures and expressive vibrato to modern pedalboards. Built in Canada, it delivers the rich, dimensional pitch movement associated with vintage bucket brigade designs, while offering a simplified control layout and practical features suited to today’s players. Equally at home with guitar or bass, it suits everything from alternative rock and indie to ambient soundscapes, post-punk textures and classic clean chorus tones.

At its core, the Supercool Pedals Zig-Zag produces a wide range of pitch modulation sounds, from slow, lush waves of chorus to subtle vinyl-style wow and flutter, dissonant pulses and full, spiralling vibrato. The chorus mode doubles the signal for a broad, enveloping spread, while vibrato mode delivers pure, modulated pitch movement without the dry blend. Compared to many modern modulation pedals, it remains notably clear and full-bodied, preserving the character of the instrument and amplifier. Even at deeper settings, the sound stays open and articulate, with a gentle level lift that helps modulation sit confidently in a band mix.

The feel is intuitive and immediate. Subtle settings add movement and dimension without overwhelming the core tone, while higher depth and speed combinations venture into seasick, swirling territory. The simplicity of the layout encourages experimentation, making it easy to dial in inspiring sounds quickly without menu diving or complex parameter balancing.

Two primary controls shape the effect. Depth adjusts the intensity of pitch modulation, moving from barely-there shimmer to pronounced, textural movement. Speed governs the modulation rate, from slow, evolving sweeps to fast, pulsing warble. A two-position toggle switches between Chorus mode, which blends the modulated signal with the dry for classic doubling, and Vibrato mode, which outputs the modulated signal alone for more dramatic pitch effects. The controls respond smoothly across their full range, offering usable sounds at virtually every position.

The Supercool Pedals Zig-Zag is built around a rare true analogue bucket brigade chip, delivering the warm, natural modulation associated with vintage designs. A carefully engineered signal path using low-noise surface mount components ensures quiet operation and a clean, uncoloured base tone, even at higher modulation depths. The true analogue design contributes to its organic movement and musical response under the fingers.

Housed in a compact 1590B all-metal enclosure, the Supercool Pedals Zig-Zag is built for long-term reliability and regular gigging use. The construction feels solid and road-ready, designed to withstand years of pedalboard life. Its distinctive Zig-Zag artwork adds character without sacrificing clarity, and the control labels remain easy to read under stage lighting.

A bright blue LED pulses in time with the modulation rate, providing clear visual feedback whether the effect is engaged or bypassed. This makes it easy to match tempo by eye and adjust speed quickly on stage.

The true bypass footswitch preserves the integrity of the dry signal when the pedal is disengaged, helping maintain clarity across longer signal chains. Top-mounted input and output jacks make pedalboard placement straightforward and space-efficient, while standard 9V DC powering keeps integration simple with most modern power supplies.

Backed by the manufacturer’s warranty, the Supercool Pedals Zig-Zag stands out as a clear, full-sounding analogue chorus and vibrato with straightforward controls, practical features and genuine vintage-inspired character in a compact, dependable format.
