Description

The DSM Humboldt Simplifier X is a dual channel, all analogue amplifier and cabinet simulator designed for guitarists who seek versatile tones without the bulk of traditional amplifiers. This compact unit offers two independent amplifier channels, each with its own preamp, power amp, cabinet simulation, and reverb controls, allowing for a wide range of tonal possibilities. Whether used in a live setting or studio environment, the DSM Humboldt Simplifier X provides the functionality of a full stereo rig in a pedal sized format.

Sonically, the DSM Humboldt Simplifier X delivers a rich palette of tones. Channel A, known as the 'Hot-Rod' side, offers high gain voicings reminiscent of classic British and American amplifiers, including the AC Brit TB, USA Rod, and MS800 Crunch. Channel B, the 'Classic Mk-II' side, provides cleaner tones inspired by the AC Brit, USA (modelled after a ’59 Bassman), and MS Brit (Plexi-style) amplifiers. Each channel features its own three band EQ, presence, and resonance controls, enabling precise tonal shaping. The onboard stereo reverb, with Room, Plate, and Ether settings, adds spatial depth to the sound.

Playing through the DSM Humboldt Simplifier X feels intuitive and responsive. The tactile controls are laid out in a familiar amplifier style format, making it easy to dial in desired tones. The absence of menus and the zero latency analogue design contribute to an immediate and natural playing experience. The included two button footswitch allows for seamless channel switching and reverb control during performances.

The control interface is designed for clarity and flexibility. Each channel includes independent Bass, Mid, Treble, Presence, Resonance, Preamp Gain, and Power Drive controls, along with switches for selecting preamp and power amp types. The cabinet simulation section offers Combo, Twin, and Stack options, with a Speaker Colour knob to fine tune the tonal character. The reverb section provides mix controls for each channel, allowing for tailored ambience.

At the heart of the DSM Humboldt Simplifier X is its all analogue circuitry, ensuring a pure signal path without digital conversion. The only digital component is the stereo reverb, which is side chained to maintain the integrity of the analogue tone. This design choice results in a dynamic and realistic amplifier feel, capturing the nuances of playing.

Constructed from heavy duty anodised aluminium with a sandblasted frosted black finish, the DSM Humboldt Simplifier X is built to withstand the rigours of touring and regular use. Its compact dimensions make it an ideal addition to any pedalboard or desktop setup.

The DSM Humboldt Simplifier X's graphics are thoughtfully designed, with clear labelling and colour coded knobs (gold for Channel A and black for Channel B) to facilitate quick adjustments. This visual clarity enhances usability, especially in live settings where swift changes may be necessary.

LED indicators provide immediate visual feedback on power status and channel selection, ensuring that the pedal's operational state is always apparent. This feature is particularly useful during performances, where quick visual cues are essential.

The DSM Humboldt Simplifier X employs a true bypass circuit, preserving the integrity of the guitar's signal when the pedal is disengaged. This ensures that the original tone remains unaffected, maintaining clarity and definition throughout the signal chain.

Input and output jacks are strategically placed for optimal pedalboard integration. The unit features dual 1/4" inputs, dual FX send/return loops, a dedicated dry signal 'Thru' jack, stereo 1/4" outputs with cab sim bypass, and dual XLR DI outputs with ground lift. Additionally, it includes a headphone output with level control and an auxiliary input for practice sessions.

DSM Humboldt offers a two year warranty for the Simplifier X, providing users with confidence in the product's durability and the company's commitment to quality. This assurance underscores the brand's dedication to supporting musicians in their creative pursuits.

In summary, the DSM Humboldt Simplifier X stands out as a versatile and robust solution for guitarists seeking a comprehensive amplifier and cabinet simulation in a compact format. Its dual channel design, extensive tonal options, and user friendly interface make it a valuable tool for both live performances and studio work. With its all analogue circuitry and thoughtful features, the Simplifier X offers a practical and high quality alternative to traditional amplification setups.
