The highly sought after Tonal Recall delay pedal by Chase Bliss has recently been discontinued, marking the end of an era. This pedal set a new standard in the realm of analog delay, boasting an impressive array of features that were previously unavailable in conventional analog delay pedals.
At the heart of the Chase Bliss Tonal Recall were a pair of reissued MN3005 bucket brigade delay chips, renowned for their legendary status. The unmistakable analog character of this delay pedal takes center stage, delivering a warm and organic sound reminiscent of vintage tape modulation.
However, the Tonal Recall went beyond simply emulating classic vintage tones. It embraced modern advancements, offering amenities such as tap tempo, optional bypass with trails, expression control over any parameter, and the ability to save presets. These additions expanded the possibilities of the pedal, making it a versatile tool for musicians seeking both vintage charm and contemporary functionality.
While the Tonal Recall incorporated a digital brain to control its various knobs and switches, it maintained the purity of your guitar signal by remaining entirely analog throughout the signal path, without any digital processing. This unique design approach unlocked unprecedented effects and features that had never before been heard or offered in analog stompboxes.
The discontinuation of the Chase Bliss Tonal Recall marks the end of an era in the world of analog delay pedals. Its legacy lies in pushing the boundaries of what was previously thought possible, bridging the gap between vintage tones and modern innovation. Chase Bliss once again demonstrated their commitment to pushing the envelope and delivering exceptional sound quality in their effects pedals. While the Chase Bliss Tonal Recall may no longer be in production, its impact on the industry and the hearts of musicians will endure for years to come.
Here’s what Chase Bliss said in their announcement on social media.
This will probably come as a bit of a surprise, but hopefully will make sense if you read everything here. Today we are discontinuing both Tonal Recall versions. Here’s a FAQ (and some Joel musings in the comments).
We are making 500 more to fulfill previous dealer obligations. We won’t be selling any of these direct. The dealers that have them on order are aware of how many they have to sell. If you want one of these 500, best bet is to reach out to your favorite Chase Bliss dealer and see if they have any that aren’t spoken for. It’s also possible you have one on order in which case probably makes sense to just touch base with that dealer and make sure everything is comfy. We plan to have these orders fulfilled within six months (hoping for better than that but gotta keep it.
A few reasons. a) they are nearly impossible to make right now due to global supply chain issues and Thermae has way more interest from our customer base. We’ll be tripling down on Thermae production in the next six months and that is a big priority for us. b) We think Thermae is a better, more compelling pedal, more on that in Joel musings in the comments below. c) Did I mention Thermae? This gives a chance to really focus on that pedal and get more out to customers and dealers. Oddly enough, it’s our most ‘asked about’ pedal right now even at being 3 years old, probably mostly to do with us not being able to fulfill market demand.
Sorry, no.
Maybe. It’s no secret this pedal was a massive ‘thing’ for us when it was released five years ago for a million reasons. I’ve got a soft spot for nearly everything about it, so I would love to revisit the concept again someday, in some form.
